Dominican Republic

In the Caribbean region's Greater Antilles archipelago, on the island of Hispaniola, sits the Dominican Republic. Along with Saint Martin, Hispaniola is the only other Caribbean island that is shared by two sovereign governments. It takes up the eastern 58% of the island, which it shares with Haiti. With a population of roughly 10.7 million, down from 10.8 million in 2020, and a land area of 48,671 square kilometers (18,792 square miles), the Dominican Republic is the third-largest country in the Antilles. Of this population, about 3.3 million reside in the metropolitan area of Santo Domingo, the country's capital city. Spanish is the official language of the nation.
