Turkey, formally the Republic of Türkiye is a transcontinental nation primarily on the Anatolian Peninsula in Western Asia with a tiny section on the Balkan Peninsula in Southeast Europe. Its official name is Türkiye. To the north, it borders the Black Sea; to the northeast, Georgia; to the east, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Iran; to the southeast, Iraq; to the south, Syria and the Mediterranean Sea; to the west, the Aegean Sea; and to the northwest, Greece and Bulgaria. Off the coast of the south is Cyprus. Kurds are the largest minority in a country where Turks make up the great majority of the population. Turkey's main city and financial hub is Istanbul, whereas Ankara is the country's capital.
