Brazil
Click for Crop ReportThe Brazil FCV crop size is calculated to be 470 million kilos in 2024, which is almost 20% lower than the previous year. The tobacco-growing areas in southern Brazil have been severely affected by adverse weather. Besides hail, excessive rains have caused plant roots to drown and leaves to develop spots. Historically, rainy conditions in Brazil result in good-quality upper stalks, but alkaloid tests show lower nicotine levels this year. Farmers were forced to harvest wet fields, and limited curing capacity will likely produce a higher percentage of mahogany-colored leaves this season.
For Burley tobacco, production is expected to be around 38 million kilograms, which is also approximately 10% lower than usual due to similar weather-related challenges.
